I knew I was going to like this gouge. Turning larger bowls, especially from tricky blanks, is sometimes unpleasant with most of the smaller gouges that you will find for a lower price. Combined with the right tool rest, this heavy tool avoids chatter.Be aware that sharpening a bowl gouge of this size is going to be free-hand. Learn to do that before you buy this gouge. Learn it on a less expensive gouge either way. I made an oak handle with a PVC collar. It works beyond my expectations. Sharpening is tricky. You don't want to mess up on something this expensive.On a lathe with two or more HP, or even on a NOVA 1 HP, you can really do some heavy turning with this tool.I am thinking about getting another one and sharpening it to an Irish Grind.
